EXCURSION TO ESSAOUIRA

The excursion will start in the morning. After a three-hour ride, we will reach the ancient port of Mogador, built by the Portuguese on a narrow peninsula beside a vast crescent of fine sand. Nestled securely behind its impressive 18th century French-built walls, Essaouira is largely a pedestrian medina divided into different neighborhoods. From the top of the Skala, you will be able to see the picturesque fishing port and the fortresses lined with Spanish canons. Essaouira is also known for its handcrafts, especially ivory-, silver-, cooper, and ebony-inlaid wooden objects. If you like fish, you will enjoy a tasty meal at the port. We will return to Marrakech in the afternoon.

EXCURSION TO OUARZAZATE THROUGH THE HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS

This excursion will take us to the High Atlas through an impressive mountain road winding through picturesque valleys and Beber villages with sellers of semi-precious stones, until we reach Tizi n’Tichka, the highest mountain pass in the Atlas (2.260 meters). To the south, beyond these mountains that are snow-capped from November to April, a different semi-desert landscape emerges.  Along the river on the way to Ouarzazate, the road is dotted with kasbahs and small mud and straw houses that contrast with the emerald green field landscape around it. The visit to Ouarzazate, a modern military city, built by the French on the edge of the Sahara, includes the former residence of Pacha El Glaui, the Taourirt Kasbash, the studios of Atlas and Aït Ben Haddou, an ancient mountain village declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. We will head back to Marrakech in the afternoon.

EXCURSION TO OURIKA VALLEY

At thirty kilometers from Marrakech, hidden among the first spurs of the Atlas, lies a beautiful valley with adobe villages hanging on the mountainsides.  In the town of Tnine-de-Lóurica, we can visit the garden of Azafrán. A little further, we find bioaromatic gardens, where 45 types of aromatic and medicinal plants are cultivated. You may smell and taste these plants. The garden of Timalizene offers Beber tea flavored with herbs. We will cross the High Atlas mountains and we get familiar with the way of life of its dwellers. Once in Ourika, we will walk through the valley, eat in one of the traditional restaurants and enjoy some free time to visit the Ourika waterfalls. You may also visit one of the traditional markets in the area. On Monday the Ourika’s market, on Thursday the Aghbalou’s and on Tuesdays and Saturdays you can also visit the markets of Asni or Tahanaout. Return to Marrakech in the afternoon.

EXCURSION TO OUZOUD WATERFALLS

The most famous waterfalls in Morocco are definitely worth the 150 kilometer-drive from Marrakech. Passing the town of Ouzoud and its many small snack places, we will begin to descend a path dotted with olive trees, before reaching the foot of the waterfalls. Being approximately110 meters high, the waterfalls form a permanent rainbow. Here you can bathe, while watching the courtship of the Rhesus Macaques (Atlas monkeys). On this visit, you can enjoy the local flora and fauna (it is common to find small monkeys) and eat in beautiful snack stands on the beaches overlooking the waterfalls. We will return to Marrakech in the afternoon.
